Equal Opportunity & Fair Housing

Housing Access and Landlord Partnership Policy

Last reviewed: 2026

Purpose

Abundant Dwellings serves as a bridge between individuals and families seeking housing and landlords willing to provide rental housing. Our goal is to increase access to safe, stable, affordable housing while respecting the rights, responsibilities, and dignity of both tenants and landlords.

Policy

Abundant Dwellings will:

  1. Treat everyone fairly. Treat all participants and landlords fairly and respectfully and will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, disability, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
  2. Assist with housing search and communication. Assist participants in identifying available housing and, when appropriate, communicate with landlords regarding the participant’s housing application, rental assistance, supportive services, or other relevant information, with the participant’s authorization.
  3. Respect landlord requirements. Abundant Dwellings does not guarantee that a landlord will accept a participant, waive lawful screening criteria, or enter into a lease.
  4. Support clear expectations. When Abundant Dwellings provides financial assistance or ongoing support, the responsibilities of the landlord, participant, and Abundant Dwellings will be clearly documented whenever possible.
  5. Protect confidentiality. Participant information will be shared with landlords only when necessary for housing placement or tenancy support and, except where disclosure is otherwise required or permitted by law, with appropriate participant authorization.
  6. Encourage housing stability. Abundant Dwellings may provide or coordinate case management, landlord communication, problem-solving, mediation, referrals, and other voluntary supports intended to help maintain a successful tenancy.
  7. Respect tenant and landlord rights. Abundant Dwellings will not interfere with a landlord’s lawful rights or a tenant’s lawful rights and will encourage all parties to follow the terms of the lease and applicable South Carolina and federal housing laws.
  8. Address concerns promptly. When a housing-related dispute or concern arises, Abundant Dwellings will seek to facilitate communication and resolution when appropriate but does not serve as a court, legal representative, or substitute for legal counsel.

South Carolina Compliance

All housing placement and landlord-partnership activities will be conducted in accordance with applicable federal, South Carolina, and local fair-housing, landlord-tenant, privacy, and nondiscrimination requirements. Nothing in this policy creates a guarantee of housing, rental payment, or continued tenancy.

Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated as needed to reflect changes in applicable law, organizational practice, and community housing needs.
